VOLUNTEERS, WE NEED YOU!

We are extremely grateful for our fantastic team of volunteers who help at our home.

There are many ways you can get involved with the work of Matthew House, from preparing a meal once-a-week to helping at Matthew House Camp. Our volunteers shop for groceries, sort donations, escort residents to appointments, maintain our houses, and act as translators. Occasionally we have projects, like home renovations or preparing a mailing, that require extra teams of helpers. Once a month, groups prepare a large meal for our Matthew House Club. Often the most important role of our volunteers is to simply befriend a refugee and provide an invaluable personal connection.

To find out more about volunteer opportunities at Matthew House, we host regular Volunteer Orientations where you can come and tour our shelter, hear details of our work and learn about volunteer opportunities first hand. See below to find the upcoming dates of our next Orientation sessions or contact our Volunteer Coordinator.

THE NEXT VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION DATES ARE:

Thursday May 9

Thursday May  30

Monday June 24th

Monday July 8th

Sessions begin at 7:00pm at our home at 981 Dundas St. West, Toronto

To RSVP please COMPLETE the Volunteer form, noting the orientation date you would like to attend and email volunteer coordinator.

Upcoming Opportunities:

In the summer of 2013, we will be in need of a new volunteer live-in Night Manager at our main home on Dundas St. West.  If interested, please contact our Operations Director Astar at astar@matthewhouse.ca   Thank you.

We will also need a new part time (paid) move coordinator ( van driver) in the late Spring.  Please contact Astar ( above) for details.

Spring Garden Project!  Calling all gardeners and carpenters!  In the spring of 2013, we would like to tranform the back yard of our Dundas St. house into a peaceful "healing garden" space complete with a sunken habitat garden and a patio with a covered pergola.  We are looking for volunteers with carpentry and landscaping experience ( to construct the pergola and patio areas) and enthusiatic gardeners to create the healing garden space.   We are also looking for donors to cover the costs of the materials. ( our target is $2500.)  Please contact our Executive Director Anne Woolger ( anne@matthewhouse.ca) if you are interested in helping with the project.  Thanks!

LOOKING TO VOLUNTEER?

Please complete our volunteer form and sign up for a Volunteer Orientation session as this a required field in the volunteer form. After attending the orientation session, we will contact you to discuss the next steps of our intake process (which may include references and security checks) in order for a mutually satisfying volunteer schedule to be arranged.  Thank you!
