Summer Camp

A great way to enjoy a Canadian summer is to retreat to beautiful Muskoka; a lake district just north of Toronto. Thanks to our supporters, every July, Matthew House's current and former residents travel to a residential camp for a long week-end of fun and relaxation. There, we enjoy God's wonderful creation, meet new and old friends, and try our hands at activities like canoeing. It continues to be a fabulous experience that is well-loved by all. The talent night is a highlight of the week-end as refugees and Canadians share their gifts and abilities- giving us a window into people's diverse culture and heritage.

Run or Walk for Matthew House! Once again this year we have the opportunity to participate in the Scotiabank Charity Run (5km, half or full marathon) on Sunday Sept 26th, 2010! It's a great way to have fun and support MH. We need LOTS of team members to run in support of our work - so we would welcome you to join our team! Matthew House had a "divine" make-over! Thanks to designer Candice Olsen and a wonderful crew from the TV make-over program Divine Design (and great volunteers ), the living and dining rooms of MH have had a complete make-over. The transformation is amazing!!! The show was re-broadcast on the Women's (W) Network on July 22 at 10pm - check the Divine Design website to read about it. MH featured in CBC documentary: A former MATTHEW HOUSE resident from Sierre Leone, was featured in an NFB documentary. The film entitled "Everybody's Children" examines the plight of unaccompanied minor refugee teens arriving in Canada. It is now viewable on the National Film Board of Canada's website. Matthew House celebrated its 12th Anniversary as a permanent shelter on Tuesday August 3rd. Over 100 Former residents, supporters and friends of MH attended a great party in the backyard of MH. Many brought a dish and shared in a wonderful international "pot luck" dinner and enjoyed music and celebrations.

Fantastic time had by all at MH Summer Camp! On July 3rd MH former residents, volunteers and staff went to beautiful Muskoka to enjoy a wonderful long weekend at Camp Kwasind! Nearly 100 campers from 22 different nations enjoyed an awesome time. Thank you to all who supported this camp!
