HOW WE SERVE

Matthew House has been welcoming refugees for over 25 years. We have inspired the opening of 10 additional refugee homes across Canada.

SHELTER AND BASIC NEEDS

Our primary goal is to restore refugees’ dignity by providing shelter and support in a welcoming, home-like setting. Many refugees arrive with little more than a small bag and need practical support. We ensure that their individual needs  are met and empower refugees to restart their lives in Canada.

WelCome to CANADA Program

Matthew House provides emotional and physical support to help residents heal from their journey and establish new lives in Canada. To ease the transition, we offer an orientation to Toronto with things like opening a bank accounts and enrolling in school.

ReCourse: Simulated Refugee Hearings

Matthew House has developed a leading-edge program to assist refugee claimants with preparation for their refugee hearing. We aid those who participate with practical experience, emotional preparedness, and constructive feedback.

Youth and transitional housing

Matthew House is continuously expanding our youth program to include houses geared for refugee youth, with live-in house parents, to provide long-term support. We aim to support and mentor youth through the entire settlement journey, and set them up to live successfully on their own.

OUR HOMES

We are a community of six homes across the City of Toronto.
We have one reception house and five long-term transition homes where additional care and support are provided.

Our initial intake shelter provides a welcoming home for newly arrived refugee claimants. Our other homes are dedicated to providing refugee youth with long-term housing and support in a family-like setting.
