Public Education & Advocacy

In addition to addressing the immediate hands-on needs of refugee claimants, Matthew House also sees value in addressing systemic issues in order to build resilient communities for refugees to ensure they receive the best possible opportunities to thrive. Therefore, our direct service is coupled with ongoing public education and advocacy related to refugees experiences.

Much of this work is led by our Founding Director, Anne Woolger who has been serving in the refugee community for more than 30 years.  She has participated in local, national and international refugee organizations including representing Canada at UNHCR meetings in Geneva. Anne currently serves as Co-Chair of the Inland Protection Working Group of the Canadian Council for Refugees and, in this role, also sits on a consultative committee for the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB). She is a passionate voice for the rights of refugees both locally and nationally.   Matthew House also regularly participates in local refugee coalitions and interest groups to keep abreast of relevant issues to best serve the needs of our community.

Representatives of the Matthew House team often speak including academic institutions, churches, and public interest groups. To receive information about booking a speaker, please contact: Admin@matthewhouse.ca.
